Piglin Guide
Where to find Piglins
Piglins can only be found in The Nether. They spawn most commonly in the Crimson Forest biome, but will sometimes rarely spawn in the Nether Wastes biome. If you're having trouble finding one of these, you can use the new Locate Biome (/locatebiome [biome name]) command! You can learn more about these with our Minecraft Console Commands List!

- Locations: Piglins have a chance at spawning in the areas listed below.
- Nether Wastes
- Crimson Forests
- Bastion Remnants
- Light Level: The light level must be below 12 (8 in Bedrock).
- Difficulty: Piglins will spawn regardless of whether the mode is set to Peaceful, but they will not attack in Peaceful.
- Baby Piglins: Each Piglin has a 20 percent chance of spawning as a Baby Piglin (five percent chance in Bedrock).
- Gear: Piglins have a 50 percent chance to spawn with a weapon and a 40 percent chance to spawn with one to four pieces of Gold armor.
Piglin Behavior
Piglins are naturally hostile towards players if the difficulty is anything but Peaceful. However, there are a few ways to distract or pacify them.
- Drop Items: Piglins are distracted by most gold-related items. This distraction only lasts a short period. If you drop a Gold Ingot, they'll even give you something back in return! The list for what they might give you is shown in the Piglin Trades & Bartering section below.
- Wear Gold Armor: If you're going into the Nether in 1.16 and up, we recommend changing your Boots or your Helmet to Gold Armor instead of Diamond or Netherite. Piglins will not be inherently hostile towards players with a piece of gold armor equipped.
- This does not apply to Piglin Brutes. Regardless of whether you're wearing gold armor, Piglin Brutes will attack you.
Even with the methods above, there are specific actions you can take that override the distraction and make the Piglins aggressive towards you. They are all listed below.
- Attack a Pigling or Piglin Brute with any type of weapon.
- While near them, open or break one of the following:
- Chest
- Trapped Chest
- Ender Chest
- Shulker Box
- Barrel
- Minecart with Chest
- Minecart with Hopper
- While near them, break one of the following:
- Block of Gold
- Gold Ore
- Gilded Blackstone
- Nether Gold Ore
- Block of Raw Gold
- Deepslate Gold Ore
Piglin Trades & Bartering
The main interest of Piglins is that you can trade with them to obtain an item at random. These items come from a set list, but you will receive some more often than others. Piglins only barter with Gold Ingots, which you can hand or throw to them on the ground, and they will reward you with one item listed below. The Piglin will stare at the Gold Ingot for a brief period, during which you cannot give them another one. Once they put the ingot away, you can then give them another one and receive a new item.

We've included the percent chance of getting a particular item, as well as the amount you can get! This is the current list of items you can obtain from them at the start of the Nether update.
